AUTO REPAIR & MAINTENANCE BLOG

Maintaining your vehicle at home is a satisfying way to keep your motoring costs down. With the right knowledge and products even someone who isn't very mechanically inclined can take care of many of the smaller issues in everyday driving. Sometimes, however, car issues can be too specialized or complex for the average motorist to take care of by themselves and it becomes time to take your car to the pros. Below you'll find three major warning signs that you need to get to a mechanic ASAP, as well as some of the potential causes behind them.

Engine and Drivetrain Problems

Let's start at the beginning. If your car won't even turn over and start up, then the rest of the problems on this list won't come into play. The simplest cause of this issue is a dead battery, which you can remedy with jumper cables, and the instructions that come printed on their packaging. If jumping the car doesn't work, you may have a larger problem with your ignition system. It's advisable to take your car into the shop at this point because finding the root of the problem will likely involve removing a few parts from your engine. Whether it's dead spark plugs or electrical problems, it's better to have it dealt with by a professional. Likewise, engine surging where the revs rise and fall can mean a problem with your fuel injectors, which are fairly deep within your motor. It's unwise to drive around with a surging engine, as this burns more gas and can cause unintended acceleration. Drivetrain issues are another major issue requiring professional attention. Everybody fears the dreaded transmission repairs, so if certain gears won't engage or they shift at the wrong times you should definitely take your car to the qualified mechanics here at Victory Automotive.

Vibration While Driving

This issue can be caused by damaged drivetrain components, but can also stem from misaligned wheels or unbalanced or flat tires. If you feel any vibration or shuddering as you drive along, you should get to a mechanic as soon as you can. At its worst, this issue can lessen your control over the car, potentially causing accidents. This will also wear out your tires more quickly than if everything was straight and true. Unwanted vibrations put stress on important (and costly) components like suspension and brakes while decreasing gas mileage, so it's smart to take your car in as soon as these issues develop.

Poor Braking Performance

Your brakes are vital to keeping you safe on the road and should definitely be cared for by a professional, unless you're absolutely sure you know what you're doing. Common signs of issues with your car's braking system include squeaking or squealing when the brakes are applied, or the brakes feeling spongy and failing to slow your vehicle properly. Squealing brakes are caused by the brake pads wearing through the pad surface to the metal underneath. At this point the metal behind your brake pad is coming into contact with the brake rotor. This can be disastrous and produce unwanted heat, reduced stopping power, and cause you to have to buy new rotors as well as the relatively cheap pads. Spongey and weak brakes can mean there's a problem with your master cylinder, which converts the mechanical pressure of you pressing the pedal into hydraulic pressure to apply the brakes. In either case, it's best to have your brakes seen to by the professional mechanics here at Victory Automotive.

There are instances where car maintenance is simple and easy, but if you notice any of these issues developing, it's best to take your car in for a qualified mechanic's checkup so the problems can be remedied before they turn into much more serious issues. Victory Automotive has the tools and expertise to have you safely back on the road in no time at all.

I came to the shop just 15 minutes before they were to close but they stayed open and did the work the next morning when they were closed! I had no idea what was wrong but they didn't rip me off with some fancy repairs. I paid $60 and haven't had any problems a year later.

The definitive local mechanic, Victory Auto had fast service, fair pricing, and friendly staff. I'll admit, I knew the owner walking in, but I was still impressed with not only the speed at which they completed the repair, but also with how quickly they were able to get my car in. Don't be thrown off by appearances, the lot looks....rough, I know, but I couldn't be happier. I'll be back again!

I've had my car worked on several times here; my car isn't the worst thing in the world but has had it's fair share of problems. I've had my alternator replaced, had it towed here after it broke down because of a gas line problem, and minor other things. I've always been satisfied with what's been done, haven't had the problems come back or worsen since they've been fixed (solid repairs), and am overall happy with this place. Dave is a nice, down-to-earth guy who really knows his way around cars.

I happen to live near Victory Auto, so when I went in the first time to talk with Dave, I was very happy to find his passion and skill for car repair! I have been a loyal customer for the last 6 years, and owning a handful of cars keeps me going back frequently. My most recent experience was I took my truck in to have some work done, well, some vandals decided they wanted the tires and rims. Dave called me first thing in the morning and apologized for not putting it in the garage at night, but it was full. I would never expect my vehicle to be garaged each night, he has many customers to make happy. He then told me that he had already filed a police report and notified his insurance company! WOW!

My Acura RSX had squeaky brakes and a tire with a slow leak. They resurfaced my two front rotors and fixed the tire for a great price. They also fixed a loose heat shield that was vibrating during acceleration. I felt they were very honest and would never suggest un-necessary repairs, which makes me feel good about taking my car there. I will be back for all my car care needs from now on. Keep up the good work!

Awesome customer service, and a solid job on all the repairs I've needed over the years on my numerous cars. Have nothing to complain about, and consider this my default auto body repair shop because of the positive experiences I've had here.

Great service! The mechanic explained the problem in a way I understood, and didn't charge me to run the diagnostic test or clean the sensor that was causing problems. This was especially great since the dealership quoted me $150 just to run the diagnostic, and likely would have charged me for a new sensor instead of first cleaning the old one. Glad I found a place I can trust, and will definitely be returning!

I called this place today looking for an oil change and a fixed flat. I had no appointment. I called to see if they could get me in the same day and it was no problem. I talked to Dave and when he found out I was planning on waiting on the car, he offered me a ride home. I only live four blocks away (I didn't realize it until I got to the place because we just moved here) and walked home. My car was ready later in the day and it was $65 for the fixed flat and oil change. I was expecting it to to be more, so I was pleased.
